Actelis Networks’ Broadband Accelerator Receives Coveted 2011 INTERNET TELEPHONY Product of the Year Award
Actelis’ BBA making universal broadband a reality for millions of underserved and unserved subscribers
Fremont, CA– January 23, 2012 –Actelis Networks®, The Broadband Acceleration Company™, today announced that TMC, a global, integrated media company, has named the Actelis Broadband Accelerator (BBA) as a recipient of the 2011 INTERNET TELEPHONY Product of the Year Award. Actelis was selected for its vision, leadership and thoroughness, demonstrating that the BBA can have a significant and positive impact on the growth of universal broadband. According to recent reports published by the Economics and Statistics Administration (ESA) and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), broadband Internet adoption has risen to 68% of US households in 2010 from only 51% of households three years earlier and from 64% in 2009. 2011 Product of the Year winners will be published in the January/February 2012 issue of INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine (www.itmag.com).
“Recent reports point to progress being made in broadband adoption rates here in the US and around the globe. There still, however, remains a vast digital divide even in developed economies like the US, where nearly one third of the country is still without access to broadband,” commented Vivek Ragavan, president and CEO of Actelis. “With our new BBA, Actelis believes that carriers worldwide can now view the digital divide as an opportunity to accelerate their success by significantly increasing their broadband penetration rates and coverage area for DSL–based services.”
With the award–winning Actelis BBA, broadband rates can be boosted by as much as 100% on typical loops and more than 400% on long loops, increasing DSL penetration rates in underserved and unserved communities and delivering the necessary bandwidth to meet the definition of broadband in almost any country.
In addition to meeting the minimum threshold for broadband, Actelis’ BBA can be used to grow the customer base to which carriers can offer triple–play services, including IPTV, which, according to Screen Digest’s IPTV Market Monitor Q2 2011 Report, has a global subscriber base of over 47 million. Since the BBA is powered by the existing POTS line and takes only minutes to install, carriers can see an accelerated time to market, immediate compliance with government mandates and higher revenue with minimal capital investment and virtually no increase in operational expenses.
“I am happy to grant Actelis with a 2011 Product of the Year Award. The editors of INTERNET TELEPHONY have verified that the Actelis BBA displays quality and innovation in the marketplace,” said Rich Tehrani, CEO at TMC. “I would like to congratulate the entire team at Actelis for their commitment to advancing universal broadband technologies.”
