Actelis Networks Newly Released ML650 for Mobile Backhaul Earns MEF 18 Certification
Las Vegas, NV.– June 18, 2008 – Actelis Networks® (Booth SL8916), the leading global supplier of Carrier Ethernet over Copper™ solutions, today announced at NXTcomm08 that the company’s new ML650 Ethernet Access Device (EAD) for mobile backhaul and PBX backhaul has been certified as fully compliant with the Metro Ethernet Forum’s (MEF) Circuit Emulation Services over Ethernet (CESoETH) specification (MEF 8). CESoETH has been specified to enable the transport of synchronous TDM circuits (T1/E1s) over asynchronous carrier Ethernet networks. Actelis’ ML650 passed all of the rigorous tests defined in the MEF 18 test suite, designed to test compliance with MEF 8, thereby satisfying one of the most important requirements for providing pseudo wire services in carrier networks. Combined with Actelis’ innovative synchronization technology, this certification proves that the ML650 is ready to be deployed even in the most demanding of network environments, particularly mobile backhaul.
Lometrix, the MEF’s official certification lab, tested the Actelis ML650 EAD and confirmed its full compliance with all requirements defined in the MEF 18 technical specifications. The Iometrix Test Plan for Circuit Emulation Services over Ethernet, upon which conformance to MEF 18 is tested, defines the requirements and corresponding test procedures to which a system must comply for the delivery of Circuit Emulation Services over Ethernet. For operators worldwide, MEF 8 and the corresponding MEF 18 test suite provide a true carrier–class Ethernet standard for mobile backhaul, PBX backhaul, as well as other business applications.
Economical and easy to deploy, the ML650 Ethernet Access Devices (EADs) from Actelis Networks are carrier–class EFM platforms that enable simultaneous delivery of T1/E1s (MEF 8 CESoETH) and high–speed carrier Ethernet services over a converged packet access network. With the ability to simultaneously backhaul up to four T1/E1s and Ethernet traffic over existing twisted copper pairs, the ML650 EADs provide the most cost–effective solution for these applications. Delivering up to 100 Mbps of fiber–quality services over eight copper pairs, the ML650 EADs will be deployable in a point–to–point configuration or as the CPE in a point–to–multipoint configuration with Actelis’ EFM aggregation platforms. With its compact size, superior performance and extensive functionality, the new Actelis family of ML650 EADs offers network operators rapid service delivery over a converged Ethernet facility, allowing for future–proof utilization of their existing network infrastructure.
“Accurate network synchronization has been the missing link for successful transport of TDM traffic over carrier Ethernet networks, especially for mobile backhaul applications. One of the key features of the Actelis ML650 EAD is its innovative synchronization technology, which eliminates all carrier concerns related to clock recovery over pseudo wire,” said Eric Vallone, vice president of marketing at Actelis Networks. “This unique architecture ensures that the ML650 provides Actelis’ customers with the most accurate and reliable solution even under maximum network load.”
“The MEF’s ongoing mission is to develop and enforce a set of standards that are based on a common set of technical specifications that will further advance interoperability and, ultimately, wide–scale deployment of Ethernet products,” said Nan Chen, president of the Metro Ethernet Forum. “By becoming one of the first companies to receive MEF 18 certification, I am pleased to recognize Actelis’ contribution of providing the telecommunications industry with standards–based, carrier–class Ethernet networking solutions.”
